Biden Breaks Vow that Border Wall Won’t Be Constructed

Building a wall along America’s southern border would be cruel, argued reporters, progressives, and Democrats over the last decade. Trump’s border wall would be a “monument to racism, tweeted Congressmember Ilhan Omar.” Then-Senator Kamala Harris called it a “medieval vanity project.” Before he was elected President, Joe Biden vowed, “there will not be another foot of wall constructed” under his watch.

However, as of early October, the Biden Administration approved the construction of a project that would add 20 miles to the wall on the southern border. The decision came after concerns regarding a surge of migrants actively moving towards the border, as a record number of 200,000 individuals immigrated in September, according to NPR.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) wrote in a statement posted to X, “The U.S. must take examining the root of migration more seriously, re-examine policy towards Latin America, and stop contributing to the destabilization that drives migration.”
