Dan Goldman Misleads Congress, Peddling Hunter-Biden Laptop Conspiracy

On November 30, the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government held a hearing to examine the federal government’s recent attacks on free expression. During questioning, Representative Dan Goldman questioned the authenticity of the Hunter-Biden laptop story, suggesting the contents contained from the retrieved hard drive were manipulated. “You would have to authenticate it to know it was the same contents. You have no idea. You know hard drives can be manipulated…The problem is that hard drives can be manipulated by Rudy Giuliani or Russia.”

There is no evidence to suggest this is true, besides the claims Hunter Biden made in his own lawsuit. While he previously denied the laptop was his, the lawsuit acknowledges “at least some of the data that Defendants obtained, copied, and proceeded to hack into and tamper with belongs to Plaintiff,” the Plaintiff being Hunter Biden. The lawsuit alleges Guiliani, among other defendants, were “looking for, hacking into, tampering with, manipulating, copying, disseminating, and generally obsessing over data that they were given that was taken or stolen from Plaintiff’s devices or storage platforms.”

Mainstream outlets like CBS acknowledge no such tampering with the laptop occurred. “Data from a laptop that the lawyer for a Delaware computer repair shop owner says was left by Hunter Biden in 2019 – and which the shop owner later provided to the FBI under subpoena – shows no evidence of tampering or fabrication, according to an independent review commissioned by CBS News.” The Wall Street Journal and NBC both wrote stories, the latter particularly voicing that censorship of the story was a mistake.
