Despite Evidence, Former Deputy CIA Director Denied Working for CIA after Suppressing Hunter Biden Laptop Story

“If you write that, you would [be] wrong,” Michael Morell, one of the 51 signatories of the public Statement on the Hunter Biden laptop, stated in response to allegations he worked for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) when he was a signatory. Notably, the open letter cited Morell as a “Former Acting Director,” “Former Deputy Director,” and “Former Director of Analysis.” for the CIA. The letter falsely claimed that the laptop had “the classic earmarks” of a Russian disinformation operation.

However, CIA deputy general counsel for litigation and investigations Robert Dugas submitted information to the House Judiciary and House Intelligence Committees disclosing Michael Morell was actively contracted by the CIA on October 19, 2020 when the open letter was published. The corresponding House report affirmed  “some of the statement’s signatories, including Michael Morell, were on active contract with the CIA at the time of the Hunter Biden statement’s publication.”

While many signatories still defend their involvement in suppressing the Hunter Biden laptop story, Morell disclosed in congressional testimony that “the Biden campaign helped to strategize about the public release” of the open letter. A joint interim staff House report entitled, “The Intelligence Community 51: How CIA Contractors Colluded with The Biden Campaign to Mislead American Voters,” ultimately “revealed that without this outreach from Blinken, Morell would not have written the statement.” Notably, Blinken was a top Biden campaign official during the call.
