UN Secretary-General Falsely Claims Climate Change is “Killing People”

“Climate change is not just a change in the weather. It is changing life on our planet,” tweeted United Nations Secretary General António Guterres. “It is killing people and devastating communities. To limit global temperature rise, we must phase out coal, oil & gas in a fair & equitable way – and massively boost renewables.” Guterres’ tweet summarizes his address to the 78th assembly of the United Nations from September 19, where he blames humanity for the worsening of the climate crisis.

Yet, there is no scientific evidence that climate change is "killing people." Deaths from extreme weather events have been declining for over a century. Even the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) calls climate change "a threat to human wellbeing" but does not claim "it is killing people." Further, as methods of data collection and statistical analysis become increasingly sophisticated, it can be challenging to compare modern day trends to past realities, as the data for the past simply does not exist. If it does, it typically negates the long-term alarmist trends perpetuated by Antonio Guterres.

The United Nations continues to drive international cooperation surrounding the development of specific renewable technologies to combat climate change, employing climate alarmism to prescribe renewables as a one-stop-shop “green” solution to a complex landscape of global environmental woes.
